Admissions September 2021
The Education Authority (EA) operates an online system for applications to pre-school and primary school places. The Admissions Portal will ‘Go Live’ at 12 noon on Thursday 7 January 2021 and will close at 12 noon on Friday 29 January 2021. Information will be available on the Education Authority website, https://www.eani.org.uk/parents/admissions
After submitting an application on the Portal, the parent will receive a confirmation email. Within 3 days the parent will then receive another email with a unique link where they can securely upload their child’s birth certificate and supporting documents if they have been requested by any of the schools to which they have applied.
Normally, prospective parents of pupils beginning Year 1 are invited to come along to our Open Afternoon to view the school, meet staff and receive further information on the EA admission process. This has been organised for June, subject to any COVID-19 restrictions. Please check our website on 7th June for update. We trust that our website and Prospectus will provide the information you require. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. It would be helpful if you could please let any neighbours or friends know these arrangements.
Admissions
Principal: Ms A Hardwick
Chair of Board of Governors: Rev N Dark
Admissions No. 30
Enrolment No. 244
Year 1 Intake
The Board of Governors draws up the admissions criteria and delegates to an Admissions Sub-Committee, which includes the Principal, the responsibility for applying these criteria.
During the admissions procedure when applying the criteria punctual applications will be considered before late applications are considered. The application procedure opens on 7 January 2021 at 12 noon (GMT) and an application submitted by the closing date of 29 January 2021 at 12 noon (GMT) will be treated as a punctual application. An application received after 12 noon (GMT) on 29 January 2021 will be treated as a late application.
Priority will be given to children who have attained compulsory school age at the time of the proposed admission.
In selecting children for admission, children resident in Northern Ireland at the time of their proposed admission will be selected for admission to the school before any child not so resident.
Admissions Criteria
The following criteria will be applied in the order set down by the Board of Governors of Knockmore Primary School in selecting children for admission to Y1 in September 2021:-
1. Children who have listed Knockmore Primary School as their first preference.
2. Children with a brother/sister or half-brother/sister of the family currently* in attendance in any class within the school. Names and year group(s)/dates must be stated on the application.
Tie-Breaker
Proximity of the child's home to the school, priority being given to those living nearest to the school as measured from the child’s home to the front door of the school. Measurement will be carried out using Ordnance Survey Maps - Northern Ireland - Digital Measurement. If two pupils are equidistant then priority will be given to the eldest child. This criterion will be used as a basis for the allocation of any remaining places.
The tie-breaker will also be used to discriminate within any oversubscribed criterion.
The Board of Governors emphasise that it is parents’ responsibility to ensure that any information which is relevant to their child’s application is included on, or with, the Application or provided to the first preference school.
Duty to Verify
The Board of Governors reserves the right to require such supplementary evidence as it may determine to support or verify information on any application.
If the requested evidence is not provided to the Board of Governors by the deadline given, this will result in the withdrawal of an offer of a place. Similarly, if information is supplied which appears to be false or misleading in any material way, the offer of a place will be withdrawn.
Waiting List Policy
Should a vacancy arise after the Open Enrolment Procedure concludes all applications for admission that were initially refused, new applications, late applications and applications where new information has been provided will be treated equally and the published criteria applied. This waiting list will be in place until 30 June 2021.
The school will contact you in writing if your child gains a place in the school by this method.
Your child’s name will be automatically added to the list. Please contact the school if you wish for your child’s name to be removed from the list.
Applications for admission to Y1 after the beginning of the school year.
Criteria as above.
Y2-Y7 Intake
The maximum number to be enrolled in classes Y2-Y7 will be 30.
In the situation of over-subscription the Board of Governors will use the admissions criteria in the order set down for Y1 Intake.
